PDLC Smart Film for Existing Glass in San Antonio
Switchable privacy film adds a clear-to-private function to existing windows, doors, and partitions.
What is PDLC Smart Film?
Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal (PDLC) film is a high-tech layer that can be applied to suitable existing glass. It contains liquid crystal molecules that align when an electrical current is passed through them, allowing light to pass through (transparent).
When the power is turned off, the crystals scatter randomly, diffusing light and instantly turning the glass opaque (frosted) for visual privacy.
You may see this product described as smart film, electric privacy film, or switchable glass film. The film is installed on existing glass; full smart glass is a separate product that replaces the glass panel.

Smart Film or Full Smart Glass?
Smart film retrofits an existing glass surface, while full smart glass requires a new pane with switchable technology built in. Smart Corp Technologies focuses on professionally installed PDLC film for existing glass in San Antonio homes and businesses.

Power Consumption
Standard PDLC film uses power in clear mode. Ask for the selected film and controller ratings and an estimate based on your glass area and operating hours.
UV Protection
UV transmission depends on the selected film and glass. Request the product datasheet; a UV rating alone does not establish solar heat reduction or cooling savings.
Switching Speed
The film changes between clear and frosted states using an electrical control. Confirm switching performance, clear-state haze, and appearance with a sample of the selected product.
What to Check Before Choosing Smart Film
Privacy, daylight, and appearance
Standard PDLC film scatters light in its frosted state. It is a visual privacy option, rather than a blackout shade. Lighting, viewing distance, and objects close to the glass affect what is visible. Review a sample in the conditions where you plan to use it, including at night. Clear mode can retain some haze.
Glass and installation conditions
Panel dimensions, surface condition, frames, moving doors, and cable routing affect suitability. Bathrooms and other damp areas need a product and edge-sealing method approved for those conditions. Tell us about direct water exposure before choosing film for a shower enclosure.
Power and controls
Standard PDLC film is frosted with power off and clear with power on. The installation needs a compatible power supply and controls. Wall switches, remotes, and automation options depend on the controller selected; confirm your particular smart-home platform before ordering.
Specifications and warranty
Ask for the selected product's datasheet and written warranty before approval. Check clear-state haze, light and UV transmission, power rating, approved cleaning products, and exclusions. Product coverage and installation workmanship should be described separately in your written project terms.
